AXcess News, New York reports today the dollar rose against other major currencies with gold and silver futures dropping and with silver's loss outpacing gold nearly 3-to-1.

Silver prices tumbled by more than three times the percentage loss of gold, down 25 cents per ounce, or 1.41%, at $17.54.

But after today's dismal July payroll report from the US Department of Labor, what may have kept silver and gold prices from falling more sharply was the 0.2% increase in the US unemployment rate that now stands at 5.7%
